This 5-Ingredient Game Day Chili Is Stupid Easy!

Five ingredients is the way to go when you are looking for quick and easy without a doubt. You can always add in more if you want to though. You can’t be put down for giving more effort than what is needed. I think anything you add to this is only going to make it better. If I have a pepper in the fridge, I’ll dice it up and toss it in for instance. I like to use a combination of the lighter beans that I can find, just because I have never had a taste for dark beans. You can use whatever you like in any mixture, or you can use all of the same bean to keep it simple. I like to put this in the crock pot after it’s cooked so that it can simmer all day long. I learned a long simmered chili always tastes better than one that’s just freshly cooked.

On game days, as soon as I am done with breakfast, I’ll start in on this. The first time I did it my husband looked at me like I was nuts. I told him it was for later on in the day. It’s the perfect relaxing day dinner. The family can just go help themselves whenever they get hungry. We don’t have to wait for everyone to be ready to eat. Serve this with the optional shredded cheese, sour cream, and tortilla chips. That’s my favorite!

  • 1 lb. ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small white onion, diced
  • 3 (15 oz.) cans diced tomatoes with green chiles
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans beans, drained
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • optional toppings: shredded cheese, chopped green onions, sour cream, cilantro, etc.

  1. In a large stockpot, cook ground beef or turkey over medium-high heat until browned, stirring frequently. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked beef or turkey to a separate plate and set aside. Reserve 1 tablespoon of grease in the stockpot, and discard the rest.
  2. Add the onion to the stockpot and saute for 4-5 minutes, or until soft.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and the cooked beef or turkey to the stockpot, and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately, garnished with optional toppings if desired. Or, store in a sealed container for up to 3 days.
