This SOS Hamburger Gravy Has Saved Me 100 Times!

When the busy week is taking over your life, you don’t have to worry about dinner with this simple hamburger gravy recipe.

My son plays every single sport that comes available to him. It can get rather expensive, and we are always running around like mad people. I don’t mind it too much, because he loves what he’s doing and he’s learning a lot. Not only about sports, but about working in a group, being on a team, and about himself. I think that all kids should join some sort of sport, team, or club of some sort while they are in school. It can really help them in discovering who they are as a person.

The problem with being so busy and spending so much on his activities is we have to sacrifice in other areas. One way that I can get a cheap meal on the table in a hurry is with this hamburger gravy recipe. It’s so easy, and everyone in my family just loves it.

It’s the same recipe that my mom used to make. I never understood back then why we had it so often, but now I completely get it!

Serves 6

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup Gold Medal all-purpose flour
  • 1 quart milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 small onion, chopped

PREPARATION

  1. Place hamburger in a large, deep skillet. Crumble and cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Remove from heat and sprinkle flour over cooked hamburger. Stir until evenly coated and all fat is absorbed.
  2. Place skillet over medium heat, add 1/2 of milk and stir until gravy begins to thicken. Add remaining milk until desired consistency has been reached and gravy comes to a boil. Season with salt, pepper and onion salt.
  3. Serve over mashed or boiled potatoes, toast or biscuits. Add fresh chopped onion if desired.

QUICK TIP

You can also do this with ground sausage, pork, or even chicken.
